Kelly Mine

Leader: Nick Walter

Nick Walter, who is the archivist of the Kelly Mine Preservation Society, will lead us around this lovingly restored mine site.  He will explain the origin of the mine, the uses of "shiny ore" (micaceous haematite), and demonstrate the ore processing stages.  There may be an optional extra tour of hillside features (up to one mile).  There are some steps and steep slopes, possibly muddy, so please wear appropriate footwear.  Parking is very limited on site, so we will meet in Bovey Tracy to condense into the minimum number of cars.   Meet at the Station Road car park (GR SX 813 782) at 6.30pm.
